What's new in iTunes 7.7
Use iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod touch with software version 2.0 or later. Also use the new Remote application for iPhone or iPod touch to control iTunes playback from anywhere in your home — a free download from the App Store.

System requirements
iTunes 7.7 requires a Macintosh with a PowerPC G3, G4, G5, or Intel Core processor, at least 256MB of RAM, Mac OS X version 10.3.9 or 10.4.9 or later. To use iPhone with iTunes, Mac OS X version 10.4.10 or later is required.

To use the iTunes Store, QuickTime version 7.4.5 or later is required. To play purchased videos from the iTunes Store, iTunes 7.7 requires a Macintosh with a 1GHz G4 processor, and at least 16MB of video RAM.

Syncing purchased movies, increased-quality TV shows, music videos, and iPod Games requires an iPod nano (third generation), iPod classic, or iPod (fifth generation) with software version 1.2 or later. Some iPod Games may not be compatible with iPod nano (third generation) and iPod classic. Syncing ringtones requires an iPhone with software version 1.1 or later.

Purchasing from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store using iPhone requires iPhone software version 1.1.1 or later.

Renting or purchasing from the iTunes Store using Apple TV requires Apple TV software version 2.0 or later. Transferring rented movies requires an iPod nano (third generation) and iPod classic with software version 1.1 or later or iPod touch and iPhone with software version 1.1.3 or later. HD movies from the iTunes Store are designed exclusively for Apple TV and may not be transferred to iTunes.

Nike + iPod requires the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, an iPod nano with software version 1.2 or later, and Nike+ ready shoes. To see your workout data on, you must have an Internet connection and a free account. For more information, visit

AirPort Express with AirTunes requires an AirPort or AirPort Extreme Card and a compatible stereo system or powered speakers. Playing your music with one or more AirPort Express Base Stations requires AirPort Express Firmware 6.3 or later. Some ISPs may not be compatible with AirPort Express. For more information, visit

Make sure you have the latest updates of Mac OS X, QuickTime, and iLife. To get the latest updates, chose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Software Update, and then click Check Now. After you install an update, it's a good idea to click Check Now again to make sure you have all the latest versions. To get the latest upgrade to Mac OS X, visit

To create audio, MP3, or backup CDs with iTunes, your Mac must have an Apple combo drive or SuperDrive. To back up your library to a DVD, your Mac must have an Apple SuperDrive. Some non-Apple CD-RW and DVD-RW drives may also work.

If you plan to use the iTunes Store, a broadband Internet connection is recommended.

Mac OS X 10.5.3 Update includes stability and security fixes. No new changes for iTunes.

Apple recommends upgrading to OSX 10.5.3

Google blog talks about Address Book sync with Google Contacts. I wonder how many more years before we see iTunes and Blogger integration.

Here is a complete list of changes and fixes in 10.5.3.


  • Fixes a font issue that could result in Helvetica Narrow being used in applications instead of Helvetica.
  • Addresses an issue with stuttering video and audio playback in certain USB devices.
  • Resolves stability issues with Word of the Day, iTunes Artwork, and Slideshow screen savers.
  • Fixes an issue in which certain attached hard drives may not show up in the Finder.
  • Addresses an issue with .Mac syncing of Dashboard widgets over multiple Macs that use different screen resolutions.
  • Includes additional RAW image support for several cameras.
  • Improves the accuracy of the Software Update progress bar indicator.
  • Addresses an issue in which Finder may not be available if the computer name is blank in Sharing preferences.

  • Clients can now change their password at the login window when bound to a Mac OS X 10.4 Open Directory server.

Address Book

  • Addresses reliability issues when searching for contacts using built-in search.
  • Resolves issues with mapping addresses that contain an ampersand character (&).

  • Addresses an issue in which some actions may not work with the "Show When Run" option enabled.

  • Addresses reliability issues when performing a full restore from a Time Machine backup.
  • Fixes an issue in which certain function keys may be disabled after using Time Machine. 
  • Fixes a possible alert message that incorrectly states a backup volume does not have enough space. 
  • Updates Time Machine to reliably restore attachments and messages in Mail.


  • Includes Braille Update 1.0 which enables GW Micro, HandyTech, HIMS, Nippon, and Papenmeier Refreshable Braille displays.
  • Addresses an issue with Braille dot 7 and 8 underlining.
  • Fixes an issue in which HTML page anchors may be ignored by the VoiceOver cursor.
  • Fixes an issue that prevented Hot Spots from being used in text areas.
  • Resolves an issue with spell checking in which VoiceOver may only announce the first misspelled word if there are multiple words spelled incorrectly.
